CHAPTER 5
Berg Enterprises, Inc.
The HVAC era of my life is my most recent adventure. I initially joined as an independent contractor to assist with marketing initiatives and was later hired full-time as the Chief of Staff to the CEO and later promoted to Vice President of Brand.
This diverse experience provided me with invaluable insights and skills that significantly enhanced my professional abilities. It was a distinctive and rewarding learning journey, ultimately standing out as one of my proudest achievements in my career.
Legacy.
In 1974, Dick and Kitty Berg founded their reputable HVAC company in the sun-drenched region of Southwestern Arizona. Over the course of three decades, this dynamic duo worked tirelessly, growing a thriving company together that not only flourished but also enabled them to provide for their family and contribute positively to the community they served so dedicatedly.
When they passed on, their legacy was taken up by the second generation, and it was during the significant transition to the third generation when I joined the team. This experience deepened my appreciation for nostalgia and highlighted the importance of paying homage to the past, while also actively building and shaping the future.
Details Matter.
Every element, from logos and color schemes to typography and messaging, pays a crucial role to the overall perception of a brand.
Maintaining consistency in these elements ensures the company is easy recognizable and sets the brand apart from competitors. Conversely, neglecting these details can create an impression of carelessness and unprofessionalism which potentially could drive clients away.
At Berg’s, I worked closely with the CEO to develop a professional, cohesive, and modern brand that accurately reflected our vision in every aspect of our business strategy.
These upgrades included:
Fully redesigned the website
Updated documents, templates, spreadsheets, and presentations
Revamped social media appearance
Crafted marketing materials for distribution
Improved employee branding with business cards, updated headshots, and proper email signatures
Executive Leader.
After a year of independent contract work, I joined full-time as Chief of Staff while also navigating marketing. As CoS, I was entrusted with developing our commercial service department in order to drive quick revenue for the company. With this mission I was able to:
Increase our revenue by $375,000 over the course of 18 months
Manage external communications with clients throughout Arizona and dispatched technicians
Review and improve our Salesforce platform by developing dispatch strategies, managing client profiles, and invoicing.
Form the client experience (CX) team to enhance our service quality and build stronger client relationships
Nine months later, I accepted the position of Vice President of Brand. In this role, I took on the significant responsibility of overseeing various aspects of our branding strategies and initiatives including:
Developing and enforcing brand guidelines in addition to revamping the onboarding process, employee handbook, and updated policies
Acting as an ambassador for the company at community events
Managing external communications, including content creation and social media strategies, while monitoring metrics and KPIs for ROI assessments
Maintaining brand consistency in client proposals, product development, and services
Additionally, I continued to manage the commercial service department, led the client experience (CX) team, and assisted the pre-construction team with proposal review and project tracking.
Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone.
I never expected that designing business cards and email signatures would transform into a chapter of a rewarding full-time career. I knew nothing of the HVAC industry, but I did have strong confidence in being able to capture a compelling narrative. The story of a family-owned business that has prospered for more than 50 years and is now in its third generation, surmounting obstacles, genuinely captivated me.
I am truly thankful for the opportunity to have contributed to the Berg legacy.
